Cheesemonger

Looking for passionate, cheese-loving, customer-focused professionals! We’re hiring for a full-time Cheesemonger at Cherry Street Cheese & Provisions. We are a small, independent shop in the heart of New Canaan, CT focused on providing the best in artisan and farmstead cheeses as well as other gourmet foods to our customers. We believe strongly in having a great team culture in our shop, which translates to the customer experience on the other side of the counter. 

This is a great opportunity to grow and develop your cheese skills in a friendly, team-oriented environment. 

Specific responsibilities include:

• caring for our products, especially our cheeses
• providing excellent front-of-house customer service and educating our community on products
• supporting the preparation of our delicious prepared foods (mac and cheese, sandwiches, etc).
• cutting and wrapping cheese and meats to order for customers
• re-stocking retail shelves and keeping the store tidy and organized
• preparing cheese & charcuterie platters for customers

We offer competitive pay, good hours (10 a – 6 p), and retirement benefits along with the opportunity to grow through education and sponsorship for the American Cheese Society's Certified Cheese Professional exam (CCP) after 1 year. Plus employee discounts!

The ideal candidate has some experience in the food service industry, in cheese, grocery or restaurant. We can train you, so if you are eager to learn, this is the place for you.

Other qualifications:

• Passionate about food (and willing to share that passion!)
• Strong communication skills
• Attention to detail
• Self-motivated and resourceful
• Must be available to work weekends (10 – 6 Saturday and 10 – 4 Sunday)
• Able to lift ~25lbs
• Food Safety Certification is a plus (but not required)
