We are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Head Cheesemaker to join our team and contribute to our continued success.
Job Summary:
The Head Cheesemaker is responsible for all aspects of the cheese-making process, from milk handling to aging and packaging. This role requires a strong understanding of cheese-making principles, meticulous attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of quality and hygiene. The ideal candidate is a team player with a passion for cheese and a desire to contribute to a growing business.
Responsibilities:
- Receive and inspect milk for quality and ensure proper storage.
- Operate cheese-making equipment, including vats, presses, and molds.
- Follow established recipes and procedures to produce a variety of cheeses.
- Monitor processes and make adjustments for quality and efficiency as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of cheese production, including ingredients, temperatures, and aging times.
- Ensure the cleanliness and sanitation of the cheese-making facility and equipment, adhering to all food safety regulations.
- Monitor the aging process of cheeses, including temperature and humidity control.
- Package and label finished cheeses for sale.
- Assist with inventory management and ordering supplies.
- Collaborate with other team members to develop new cheese varieties and improve existing processes.
- Stay up-to-date on industry trends and best practices in cheesemaking.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and company policies.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Cheesemaker, preferably in an artisan or specialty cheese operation.
- Strong understanding of cheese-making principles, including milk chemistry, cultures, and aging processes.
- Knowledge of various cheese styles and production methods.
- Ability to operate and maintain cheese-making equipment.
- Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
- Excellent record-keeping skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong work ethic and a passion for the dairy and cheese industries.
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and HACCP principles.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Formal training or certification in cheesemaking.
- Experience with soft cheese production, particularly.
- Experience with hard cheese production, particularly .
- Experience with other dairy products, such as yogurt, butter, or ice cream.
- Knowledge of local, regional, and/or world dairy industry.
Compensation:
Salary range $60-$80k with bonus opportunities corresponding to KPI's available, commensurate with experience.
