Job Description for Cheesemaker for Cashel Farmhouse Cheesemakers

Position: Cheesemaker

Location of work: Cashel Farmhouse Cheesemakers, Beechmount, Fethard, Co. Tipperary

Note this is a rare opportunity which has become available due to the retirement of a cheesemaker following over 30 years working with our family cheesemaking business, with an internationally recognised brand.

Hours of work: Variable start times from 5.30am to 7am finishing by 3pm daily, finish time weekends 11.30am

Full time position: Up to 39 hours per week

Number of people within team: 5 full time staff

Job responsibilities and requirements:

To work hands on with the milk, from milk intake until cheese is made and has completed initial stages of maturation, this includes the hand cutting and stirring of curds and whey, salting of cheese and many other stages of cheesemaking, in a high care environment.

To have a genuine interest in speciality food production and cheesemaking

To assist in maintaining a clean and safe cheesemaking environment

As craft producers we physically cut and stir our curds by hand , this requires the ability to consistently handle weights of up to 20kg

Attention to detail including recording of quality assurance checks according to schedules, we are a BRC Grade A listed site.

To assist in day to day routine maintenance if required

Minimum commitment of 2 years required – in addition to a 3 month trial

Qualifications and Experience:

Leaving Certificate or equivalent

A minimum of 1 years work experience in the food industry

Previous cheesemaking experience desirable

Pay: Subject to experience – minimum of €30,000.
